Digital Labels are part of Extend, our latest product line designed to help organizations present dynamic, screen-based content in a variety of settings — from galleries and campuses to retail spaces and public venues. Whether you want to display real-time information, highlight featured content, or provide interactive experiences, Digital Labels enable engaging digital communication with your audience.

All setup and management happen in the new Devices tab, available in the Pladia Console for Extend-enabled customers.

Note: The Devices tab is currently available to Extend-enabled customers only. If you’re interested in enabling Digital Labels for your organization, please contact your Pladia Customer Success team member.

This article explains how to create a Device in your Pladia Console, link content, and activate your Digital Label using a provisioning URL.

Digital Labels leverage existing Space and Object content. If you want to display content that hasn’t yet been added to your Pladia Console, please begin by creating the necessary Spaces and Objects before setting up your Digital Labels.

Accessing the Devices Tab

To manage Digital Labels:

  1. Log into the Pladia Console.

  2. Go to the Devices tab in the sidebar.

Here you can view, create, and manage all Devices.

Creating a New Digital Label (Device)

To create a Device:

  1. Click Create New in the upper right corner of your screen.

  2. Enter a Device Name (for internal use only).

  3. Click Link to an existing Space to choose the content that will appear.

    1. Search for and select the correct Space, or click Create Custom Space to make a new one from scratch. Learn more about creating Spaces →

Note: Spaces created through this process will appear in all Pladia PWAs your organization is licensed to use.

    2. Click Select to confirm your choice.

About Space Linking: Digital Labels are designed for stationary devices placed within a specific physical Space in your institution. Linking a Pladia Space ensures that each label displays only the content relevant to its physical location. Visitors will not be able to browse content from other Spaces or Objects not associated with that location, helping them stay oriented and focused on what’s directly around them.

  4. (Optional) Check the Noisy Mode box to enable audio playback.

About Noisy Mode: Noisy Mode gives you control over how sound is handled on a Digital Label. In quieter environments, turning on Noisy Mode allows the device to play audio aloud. In busier or shared spaces, you may prefer to leave it turned off.

When Noisy Mode is turned off, the behavior of audio and video content depends on your organization’s setup:

    • In some cases, audio and video will still appear on the Digital Label, along with a QR code visitors can scan to listen or watch on their own device.

    • In other cases, audio and video will not be shown on the Digital Label at all.

Looking to make audio and video content accessible on visitors’ personal devices?
Reach out to your Pladia Customer Success team to learn how.

  5. Click Save in the bottom right corner.

  6. Click the Linked Objects tab to review the Objects linked to this Space/Device. Learn more about Objects →

Click Publish to make the Device available in your next Release when ready.

Updating Content on a Digital Label

To update the content that appears on a Digital Label, make changes directly to the linked content in the Pladia Console. This may include:

  • Editing the linked Space (e.g., name or content)

  • Adding, removing, or updating Objects associated with the Space.

To ensure updates appear on your Digital Label, make sure that:

  • All updated content is marked as Published

  • Any new or edited Objects are released

  • The updated Space is released

  • The associated Device is released

Content cannot be edited from the Devices tab. Updates will only appear on the Digital Label after all relevant changes are marked as published and included in a new release.
Because Digital Labels display content already created in the Pladia Console, any updates made to Spaces or Objects will automatically carry over—ensuring a consistent visitor experience wherever that content appears.

Tip: Updates to Digital Labels are available immediately after publishing and release. To avoid disrupting active visitor sessions, the updated content will appear after the Digital Label returns to the Attract Loop—typically triggered after 3 minutes of inactivity.

Deploying a Digital Label

Each Device is assigned a unique provisioning URL after it has been published and included in a Public Release.

To activate a Digital Label:

  1. Publish the Device in the Pladia Console

  2. Perform a Public Release that includes the Device, and any new or updated linked content (such as Spaces or Objects)

  3. Once released, return to the Device record and click Copy Link to get the provisioning URL

  4. Open the URL in a browser on your preferred display device (e.g., tablet, touchscreen, monitor)

You can also preview the link in your own browser before installation.

Important: The Copy Link button will remain disabled until the Device has been both published and included in a Public Release. If the linked Space and Objects have already been released and haven't changed, they do not need to be re-released.

Device Compatibility and Appearance

Digital Labels are delivered as a browser-based Progressive Web App (PWA), which means they can run on a wide range of internet-connected devices — no app installation or proprietary hardware required.

They are compatible with most modern tablets, touchscreens, and mid-sized display screens, and support both portrait and landscape orientation. The Digital Label interface will automatically adapt to the screen’s shape and size.

The app also respects the system appearance settings of the device:

  • Devices in dark mode will display the label with a dark theme

  • Devices in light mode will show the label in a light theme

Note: Currently Digital Labels support a maximum screen width of 1366px. This range is optimized for commonly used tablets and small to mid-sized displays.

If customers plan to use devices with known browser limitations (such as BrightSign), or operate under internal policies that restrict available hardware, we recommend contacting your Pladia Customer Success team to discuss compatibility and deployment options.

Optional: Running a Digital Label in Kiosk Mode

To ensure your Digital Label remains active and uninterrupted, consider enabling Kiosk Mode (also called Single App Mode) on your display device. This locks the screen to the browser or app showing the Digital Label, preventing visitors from navigating away or accessing other content.

How you enable Kiosk Mode will depend on your device:

  • On iPads: use Guided Access

  • On Android tablets: use Screen Pinning or App Pinning

  • On dedicated signage hardware: refer to the device’s documentation

This setup is strongly recommended for unattended or high-traffic locations.

Congratulations! You have successfully created and deployed your Digital Labels using the Pladia Console. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Pladia Customer Success team.
