Importing an IMDF (Indoor Mapping Data Format) file can streamline the process of setting up your Venue, Buildings, Levels, and Spaces in the Pladia Console by using existing spatial data to automatically generate these components. This can save time by eliminating many manual steps.

Benefits of Using an IMDF File

Using an IMDF file can streamline your setup by automating the creation of key elements:

  • Venues, Buildings, and Levels: The IMDF file automatically generates these components with predefined boundaries, removing the need for manual creation and boundary drawing.

  • Spaces: Depending on the file, it may also create your various Spaces such as galleries, rooms, walkways, and other architectural features, providing a comprehensive starting point for your setup.

  • Map Sets: The predefined boundaries from the IMDF file provide clear reference points, making it easier to place and configure your visitor facing map sets accurately.

This process reduces the time and effort involved in creating and setting up your instance in the Pladia Console, allowing you to quickly progress with enriching the content your visitors will interact with in your PWA.

Limitations of Using an IMDF File

While IMDF files offer the benefit of removing manual processes, they also come with limitations:

  • Fixed Boundaries: You cannot edit the boundaries of Spaces that are generated by the IMDF file.

    • You can still add content and Objects to these auto-generated Spaces even though their boundaries remain fixed.

Verifying the Accuracy of Auto-Generated Content

While IMDF files are generally accurate, it’s important to verify that the generated elements correctly reflect your physical Venue and meet your expectations. Ensure that each auto-created element has the correct name and boundary. Check that Levels are properly associated with the right Buildings and have the correct Level-Index, and confirm that Spaces are linked to the appropriate Levels. You can rename any IMDF-generated elements to make them more user-friendly for your visitors.

If you encounter issues with the Levels or boundaries of auto-generated Spaces, you have two options for resolution:

  1. Re-upload the IMDF File: Delete the entire Venue created from the IMDF file (which removes all associated Buildings, Levels, and Spaces). Update the IMDF file as needed and re-upload it.

  2. Manually Recreate Spaces: Delete the problematic Space and manually recreate it in the Pladia Console.

Steps to Import Your IMDF File

  1. In the Pladia Console, select Venues from the left-navigation.

  2. Click on Import Venue (from IMDF).

  3. A dialog box will appear.

    • Drag and drop your IMDF file to upload it.

    • Alternatively, click on Choose a File to browse your device and select the file for upload.

  4. You will see a progress indicator while Pladia processes the file.

  5. When the upload is complete, click Ok or Done

  6. Review the generated Venue, Buildings, Levels, and Spaces on the Venue Setup Screen

  7. Verify the accuracy of the auto-generated components and adjust names if necessary.

  8. All auto-generated elements are automatically set to Going On-Display, meaning they will be visible in your Empower PWA after your next Public Bundle is published.

    • To keep any element from being visible in the Empower PWA, you will need to manually set it to Keep Off-Display.

With your IMDF file successfully uploaded and verified, you’re ready to enrich your Spaces by adding additional details, such as Images, Audio, and Content Blocks, or by associating Objects to them. This efficient process aligns your digital Venue with your physical space, reducing the need for manual setup.
