In the Empower PWA, maps play a crucial role in guiding visitors through a venue, helping them locate key areas and points of interest (POIs). The Landing Map and the Location Map each serve a unique purpose and offers different functionalities to enhance the visitor experience within your venue.

A selection of screens from the Empower Landing Map

The Landing Map offers a broad overview of the venue, while the Location Map zooms in on specific Objects, Spaces, or Enriched POIs. Understanding these maps and their functionalities can significantly improve how visitors interact with the digital representation of your venue, leading to a more intuitive and engaging experience.

Landing Map

Purpose: The Landing Map provides a high-level overview of the venue, showcasing the layout along with Spaces and POIs on each level. It helps visitors get acquainted with the venue’s structure so they can find essential spaces quickly.

Access: The Landing Map is found on the map tab if a visitor-facing map has been published in the Console for your app.

  • If no map has been published then this tab will show the Space and Object experience with the menu title “Spaces”

The Landing Map tab bar menu item

The Landing Map displays Spaces, Standard Points of Interest and Enriched Points of Interest.

  • Spaces: Represented as nodes on the map. Selecting a Space highlights its boundary and displays a preview card with more details.

  • Enriched Points of Interest: Displayed as selectable icons. Tapping an icon brings up a preview card with additional information.

    • The icons displayed can be selected in the Pladia Console.

An Enriched POI when selected

  • Standard Points of Interest: Displayed on the map as the icon which has been selected in the console.

    • Standard POIs cannot be selected and are intended to show visitors the locations of amenities such as bathrooms and information centers.

Additional Functionality: A Space and Object drawer sheet overlays the map, allowing visitors to pull up to see a completed list of Spaces and POI on the selected level.

Location Map

for Objects, Spaces and Enriched POI

Purpose: The Location Map provides visitors with the location of a single Object, Space or Enriched POI in order to aid visitors in finding that specific thing and provide some spatial context.

Access: Found under the location tab for Objects, Spaces, and Enriched POIs. When selected, a modal displays the relevant item highlighted on the map.

The Location Map for a specific Space

  • Object Location Map: Highlights the Object and its Space, displaying a thumbnail version of the hero image.

  • Space and Enriched POI Location Map: Functions similarly to the Landing Map, highlighting the item on the map with a detailed view.

Navigation: When the user is done navigating the Location Map, they can select "Done" to return to the previous screen.

When using the level selector on this type of map, the original Object, Space or Enriched POI will be highlighted on the correct level.

The object thumbnail is highlighted on the correct level if the level selector is used on the Location Map.

Universal Map Functionality

  • Preview Cards: Both maps feature preview cards for Spaces and Enriched POIs. These cards can be selected to view more details and swiped to toggle through the other Spaces or Enriched POI on the selected level. What is displayed when swiping is influenced by physical proximity, showing the closest item next (as determined by physical proximity and position placement on the map in the console.)

  • Level Switching: Users can switch between different building levels on both maps if multiple levels are available.

Map File Requirements and Recommendations

To ensure optimal performance and a smooth visitor experience, please adhere to the following map file specifications:

  • Transparency: A transparent map file is recommended.

  • File Type: Preferably PNG for transparency, but JPEG is also acceptable.

  • Resolution: Ideally 8 megapixels or lower (e.g., 3000x3000 pixels).

    • Do not exceed 16 megapixels to avoid performance issues.

  • Text: Avoid including text on the map image.

Understanding how the Landing and Location Maps function in the Empower PWA is crucial for effective visitor wayfinding and an enhanced experience. By following the usage guidelines and recommended map file specifications, you’ll ensure smooth performance and clear navigation.
