This deep-dive article explores the space-related metrics in the Empower Analytics Dashboard. If you are looking for high-level details and do not wish to get into the detailed information provided here, please visit the Empower Analytics Dashboard Overview.

The Spaces tab provide insights into how visitors move through and interact with different Spaces in your Venue. It highlights details such as the most and least popular Spaces, how visitors access them, and what they search for. With clear definitions, context, examples, and explanations for each metric, this article helps you understand how space-based engagement influences the overall visitor experience.

Reminder: Each of the metrics available on the Spaces tab can be filtered by Date range with the default set to Last 7 days, Venue, Building, and Level.

Metrics Available

Total Space Views

  • Definition: The total number of times a Space detail page was viewed within the PWA, including repeated views by the same user.

  • Context: This metric is represented as a single number that provides insight into how frequently visitors are engaging with all of your Space detail pages, regardless of whether the same Space is viewed multiple times by the same visitor.

  • Example: If Visitor 1 views Space A five times, Space B three times, Space C twice, and Space D four times, while Visitor 2 views Space A once, Space B twice, Space C four times, and does not view Space D, the total Space Views would be calculated by summing all of these views: (5 + 3 + 2 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 4), resulting in a total of 21 views.

  • How it is Useful: This metric provides a total count of all Space Views, offering a high-level overview of visitor engagement across Spaces. While it does not specify which individual Spaces are most frequented, a higher total number could suggest a general interest in Spaces, prompting operators to further analyze specific Spaces or gather more detailed metrics. This understanding can support decisions related to improving signage, planning events, or tailoring marketing efforts. It can also help evaluate how the content within these Spaces impacts overall visitor interactions.

Total Estimated Unique Users

  • Definition: The estimated total number of unique visitors who viewed any Space detail page in the PWA, based on the filters applied in the dashboard. Repeated views by the same user across different Spaces are counted as one unique user.

  • Context: This metric reflects the number of distinct visitors engaging with Space detail pages across the PWA within the specific date range and filters set by the operator. Unlike Total Space Views, which counts each interaction, this metric focuses solely on unique users, providing insight into the breadth of engagement across all Spaces.

  • Example: If User A views 3 different Space pages and User B views 2 of the same Space pages multiple times during the given time period, the Total Estimated Unique Users will count them as 2 unique users, despite multiple views across different Spaces or multiple views of the same Spaces.

  • How it is Useful: This metric helps gauge the total reach of Space engagement by focusing on unique visitors within the parameters set by the operator’s filters. It offers insights into the overall number of distinct visitors exploring Spaces within the venue, guiding decisions on improving experiences in popular Spaces or refining content offerings. This can also inform targeted marketing strategies based on the behavior and engagement of unique visitors within the filtered data.

Daily Space Views

  • Definition: A line chart displaying the total number of Space views per day, with daily data points plotted to help identify trends in visitor engagement. This metric includes all views, meaning if the same visitor accesses the same Space multiple times, each view is counted.

  • Context: This metric visually tracks how often Space detail pages are viewed on a daily basis, providing insights into daily fluctuations in visitor interaction with all of your Space detail pages. Repeated views from the same visitor are included, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of engagement levels.

  • Example: Each day's total views are calculated based on visitor activity. For instance, on Monday, 100 visitors accessed Space pages, with 20 revisiting the same Spaces later in the day, resulting in a total of 120 views. With each day's total represented as a data point on the line chart, the chart might display 120 views for Monday, 100 for Tuesday, 125 for Wednesday, 75 for Thursday, and 175 for Friday. This allows operators to analyze engagement patterns, noting peaks like Friday and dips such as Thursday throughout the week.

  • How it is Useful: This metric offers an overview of visitor engagement with Spaces on a daily basis. While it doesn’t indicate individual Space performance, it helps identify patterns in overall visitor activity, such as spikes in engagement on specific days. Operators can correlate these patterns with events, promotions, or particular days of the week, providing insights into broader engagement trends across the venue’s Spaces.

Space Views by Source

  • Definition: A pie chart that provides a detailed breakdown of how visitors accessed Space detail pages within the app. In the center you will see the total number of views among all sources. Users can hover over individual slices to see the exact number of times each Space was viewed using each source. The sources are categorized as follows:

    • Search: When a visitor uses the search function to locate a Space.

    • Scan: When a visitor scans a QR code or NFC tag to access a Space.

    • Landing Map: When a visitor accesses a Space from the landing map.

    • Space List: When a visitor accesses a Space from the Spaces list.

    • Home: When a visitor accesses a Space directly from the home page of the app.

    • Direct: When the Space page is accessed directly after onboarding, indicating the visitor entered the URL for the Space itself.

    • Object: When a Space is accessed via an object that has been connected to the Space.

    • Other: Includes any views not fitting the above categories, such revisiting a Space page after going to MyVisit and then hitting the back button.

  • Context: This metric highlights how visitors navigate to Spaces, showing which entry points are most popular for accessing your content related to all Spaces in your venue.

  • Example: Suppose your Spaces have a total of 200 views. Of those, 50% come from visitors scanning QR codes, 30% from searching for the Space within the app, and 20% from accessing it through Objects associated with the Space. The pie chart breakdown shows the largest slice as Scans, the second largest as Search, and the third slice representing Objects. This visualization illustrates how visitors interact with your Spaces, with Scans being the most common method, followed by Searches and Nearby recommendations.

  • How it's useful: This metric helps institution operators understand how visitors prefer to access Spaces. If the majority of views come from Scans, operators might focus on ensuring that QR codes are placed prominently throughout the venue. If Searches are frequently utilized, this may indicate a need for keyword-rich tagging. By identifying these trends, operators can gain insights into visitor behavior and engagement patterns, ultimately guiding decisions for enhancing accessibility and interaction with Spaces.

Space Views by Name

  • Definition: A ranked table displaying the popularity of Spaces based on total and unique views, and how visitors accessed each Space. The table includes sortable columns for Total Views, Unique Views, and view sources such as Search, Scan (QR, NFC), Landing Map/Space List, Home, and Object. Each metric and view source is detailed in the sections above.

  • Context: This metric provides a detailed view of Space popularity and visitor access patterns. Each row in the table represents a specific Space, with sortable columns displaying total views, unique views, and how visitors accessed each Space. By sorting the table, operators can easily analyze trends and identify how visitors are discovering and interacting with various Spaces. Note that only six Spaces are shown at a time; use the arrow buttons to view additional Spaces.

  • Example: The table is ranked by total views by default. For example, Space A might be ranked first with 500 total views and 350 unique views, including 200 views from scans, 100 from the map, and 150 from searches. Space B, ranked second, could have 400 total views and 380 unique views, with most views from searches and scans. While Space A has more total views, sorting the table by unique views would move Space B to the top, as it has a higher number of unique visitors. This allows operators to identify not just the most-viewed Spaces but also those with more unique visitors.

  • How it’s Useful: This metric helps identify which Spaces are the most popular and how visitors are discovering them. By analyzing the breakdown of views by source, operators can understand which discovery methods are most effective. For example, many views from scans may suggest that QR codes are working well, while a high number of search-based views may indicate effective tagging. This data can guide decisions on signage placement, event planning, or the organization of spaces within the PWA.

Space Media Played

  • Definition: A ranked table displaying media associated with Spaces, including sortable columns for the number of plays, media type (e.g., audio, video), average completion rate percentage, average played seconds, and the full duration of the media file.

  • Context: This table provides insights into how media linked to Spaces is being consumed by visitors. By default, it ranks media by the number of plays, but you can sort by other columns to assess engagement trends, such as completion rates and played duration. Each row represents a media item associated with a Space, showing its play metrics and engagement levels.

  • Example: For instance, Media A, linked to a Space, could be an audio file with 250 plays, an average completion rate of 50%, an average played duration of 2 minutes, and a full duration of 4 minutes. Media B, which is a video with 180 plays, may have a 70% completion rate, an average played duration of 3 minutes, and a total length of 5 minutes. By default, Media A would be ranked higher due to its number of plays, but sorting the table by completion rate would move Media B above it due to its higher engagement rate.

  • How It’s Useful: This metric highlights which media associated with Spaces are the most popular and how well visitors engage with it. By analyzing completion rates and play durations, operators can gain insights into visitor preferences and the effectiveness of different media types. For example, if audio content consistently has higher completion rates, it could suggest a preference for that format. Alternatively, lower completion rates for video may signal a need to revise or shorten content. This data can inform decisions on future media content and presentation strategies.

Space Location Map Views

  • Definition: A pie chart that displays how many times visitors viewed the location of a Space on the map, broken down by Space name. The center of the pie chart shows the total number of location views for all Spaces combined. Users can hover over individual slices to see the exact number of times each Space was viewed on the map.

  • Context: This metric helps identify which Spaces visitors are most interested in locating within the venue. Each slice of the pie chart represents a percentage of the total location map views, with larger slices indicating Spaces that were more frequently sought out by visitors.

  • Example: If Space A accounts for 50% of the location views, it will have the largest slice of the pie, showing that it was the most frequently sought-after Space on the map. Space B, with 30%, will have a smaller slice, while the remaining Spaces will be represented by smaller portions. This breakdown visually demonstrates which Spaces drew the most interest for location searches.

  • How It’s Useful: This metric allows operators to see which Spaces are most often sought out by visitors on the map, providing insights into high-traffic areas or Spaces that may be difficult to find. Operators can use this data to understand visitor patterns and adjust Space placement, signage, or promotions accordingly. If certain Spaces consistently receive more map views, it may indicate higher visitor interest, supporting future decisions about venue layout or promotional focus.
