On the Overview tab you'll find metrics on app engagement, with the option to drill down further from other tabs. Each metric is outlined with detailed definitions, context, examples, and explanations on how it can inform your decision-making. This breakdown will equip you with a clear understanding of how visitors interact with your PWA at a glance.

Reminder: Each of the metrics available on the Overview tab can be filtered by Date range with the Default set to Last 7 days.

Note: Date filters utilize UTC time zone.


Metrics Available

Total Sessions

  • Definition: A session refers to a collection of a visitor's interactions with the PWA on a unique device. If a visitor is inactive for 30 minutes or more, a new session begins upon their return, even if it's the same user.

  • Context: This metric gives a general sense of how often the app is being used.

  • Example: A user browsing your PWA for a given amount of time that then stops for 30 minutes but begins again would count as two sessions.

  • How is it Useful: This metric helps provide a high-level view of visitor activity within the app. By counting each session, it gives insight into how often visitors interact with the app. This data can help identify peak usage periods, track visitor engagement trends, and gauge overall app performance. Additionally, understanding session volume and patterns can inform decisions about feature updates, marketing efforts, or improving the app’s user experience to boost engagement further.


Estimated Unique Users

  • Definition: This metric represents the estimated number of individual visitors interacting with the App, based on unique device identifiers. If the same visitor accesses the App from different devices or clears their data, they may be counted as multiple unique users. However, sessions from the same device may be deduplicated to provide a more accurate count of unique users.

  • Context: This metric gives a clearer picture of the total number of distinct individuals engaging with the App, as opposed to counting all sessions, which may include repeat visitors.

  • Example: If one visitor accesses the PWA one time each on their phone, tablet, and laptop, this could be counted as three unique users. Conversely, if they access the App multiple times on just their phone within multiple session periods, they would be counted as one unique user.

  • How is it useful: This metric helps gauge the actual reach and audience size of your App. It gives a more accurate measure of the visitor base by excluding repeated sessions from the same device, which can provide clarity when evaluating the number of visitors using the PWA. Monitoring unique users over time could help track visitor usage growth, assess the impact of marketing campaigns around the PWA, and identify potential areas for expanding the visitor base.


Daily Session Engagement

  • Definition: This metric is represented as a stacked bar graph, showing two types of sessions: Engaged Sessions and Sessions. An "Engaged Session" is defined as a session with two or more page views(after the Onboarding screens), while a "Session" includes all other sessions with fewer than two page views. The total number of daily sessions is the sum of Engaged Sessions and Sessions.

  • Context: This graph provides a visual breakdown of visitor engagement within daily sessions. It highlights not only the total number of sessions but also distinguishes between more and less engaged interactions.

  • Example: On a given day, if there are 100 total sessions, and 30 of these are Engaged Sessions (with two or more page views), the graph will show a bar representing 30 Engaged Sessions stacked on top of a bar for the remaining 70 Sessions. This provides a clear view of how many sessions are highly interactive versus less engaged.

  • How is it useful: This metric helps evaluate the quality of visitor interactions with the App. By distinguishing between Engaged Sessions and less engaged Sessions, you can assess how effectively the App captures and maintains visitor interest. Monitoring these metrics helps identify trends in visitor engagement, spot opportunities for improving content to enhance visitor experience, and determine the effectiveness of your engagement strategies. This data can guide efforts to increase overall visitor satisfaction and PWA performance.


Average Engaged Session Duration

  • Definition: This metric calculates the average duration of Engaged Sessions, where an Engaged Session is defined as a session with two or more page views. It measures the average length of time visitors spend in these more interactive sessions.

  • Context: The Average Engaged Session Duration helps evaluate how long users are actively interacting with the app during their Engaged Sessions. This metric focuses on sessions where visitors show more interest by engaging with multiple pages.

  • Example: If there are 3 Engaged Sessions with durations of 5 minutes, 7 minutes, and 3 minutes, the Average Engaged Session Duration is calculated as follows: (5 + 7 + 3) / 3 = 5 minutes. This means the average time users spend in Engaged Sessions is 5 minutes.

  • How is it useful: This metric provides insights into the depth of visitor engagement. A higher average duration suggests that visitors are spending more time interacting with the app's content, which often indicates greater interest or satisfaction. Monitoring this metric can help assess the effectiveness of content retaining visitor attention. It also provides valuable information for optimizing visitor experience, identifying content that drives prolonged engagement, and making data-driven decisions to enhance visitor experience and improve overall visitor satisfaction.


Device Category

  • Definition: The Device Category metric breaks down the types of devices used to access the PWA, such as iOS, Android, Desktop, and Other.

  • Context: This metric categorizes the devices your visitors use to interact with the app, providing a clear view of device distribution.

  • Example: If 60% of your visitors are using iOS devices, 30% are on Android, and 10% are using desktops, this breakdown will show those percentages.

  • How it is Useful: This metric helps you understand the types of devices your visitors use. Knowing the device distribution can inform decisions related to app content, marketing materials, and potentially visitor interactions.


Device Language

  • Definition: The Device Language metric shows the languages set as the default on the devices used to access the PWA. It categorizes visitors based on their device language settings.

  • Context: This metric provides insight into the primary languages of your visitors' devices, reflecting the linguistic preferences of your visitor base.

  • Example: If 70% of your visitors have their devices set to English, 20% to Spanish, and 10% to French, this breakdown will display those language distributions.

  • How it is Useful: Understanding the device languages of your visitors can help you tailor content and communication strategies to better align with their linguistic preferences. Knowing this information can guide how you prioritize or present content in different languages to enhance visitor engagement.


External Links Selected

  • Definition: The External Links Selected metric displays a table of URLs ranked by the number of clicks they received, showing which external links are most frequently interacted with by visitors.

  • Context: This metric helps identify which external links within the PWA attract the most attention from visitors.

  • Example: Imagine you have links to various pages such as the cafe menu, a live exhibition's show times, and membership sign-ups. If the link to the cafe menu has 150 clicks, the exhibition's show times has 100 clicks, and the membership sign-up page has 75 clicks, the table will rank these links from highest to lowest based on the number of clicks. This means the cafe menu will appear at the top of the table, followed by the exhibition show times, and then the membership sign-up page.

  • How it is Useful: This metric is useful for understanding which external resources or pages are most engaging to visitors. By identifying the most-clicked links, operators can better assess what information is of highest interest to their visitors. For example, if the cafe menu is frequently accessed, it may indicate a high interest in dining options. This information can help operators decide if they may want to consider adding additional food options on the premises as well as which external content to highlight more prominently or improve based on visitor interest.


Location Map Views

  • Definition: This metric displays a pie chart that breaks down the number of map views by category: Space map views, Object map views, and Enriched POI map views.

  • Context: This chart provides insight into which types of locations visitors are most frequently looking up on the map.

  • Example: If the pie chart shows 50% of map views are for Object map views, 30% for Space map views, and 20% for Enriched POI map views, it indicates that visitors are primarily interested in locating objects, with a smaller focus on spaces and POIs.

  • How it is Useful: Understanding which source of map views is most popular can help operators gauge visitor interests and behavior. For example, if the data shows a higher number of Object map views compared to Space map views, it suggests that visitors are more frequently searching for specific objects rather than navigating by spaces. This information can be useful for identifying which aspects of the venue are most important to visitors and can guide content decisions or signage enhancements to improve the overall visitor experience.


Total Page Views

  • Definition: These metrics provides the overall count of page views across each of the categories, including Objects, Spaces, Tags, and POIs, with the option to view detailed breakdowns in their respective tabs.

  • Context: It gives a high-level overview of how many times different types of content are viewed within the app.

  • Example: If the total page views for a day are 10,000, with 4,000 views for Objects, 3,000 for Spaces, 2,000 for Tags, and 1,000 for POIs, the Total Page Views metrics display these numbers to show overall engagement.

  • How it is Useful: These metrics helps operators understand the total volume of interactions with the app's content. By examining the overall page views, operators can get a sense of which types of content are most engaging to visitors. For instance, if Objects have a significantly higher number of page views compared to other categories, it indicates strong visitor interest in specific items. This insight can inform decisions about content placement, promotional efforts, or highlighting popular features to enhance visitor engagement.
