Maximizing Impact with Navigable Attributions

Enhance visitor storytelling by transforming static credits into immersive content journeys.

Written by Collin Gall

Overview

Attributions have evolved from static text references into a first-class, navigable content type within Empower. By moving beyond simple names and dates, Venues can now provide visitors with dedicated detail pages that explore the stories, people, and organizations behind their collections.

Strategic Best Practices

To get the most out of the new Attributions framework and increase visitor engagement within the PWA, consider the following strategies:

  • Humanize Your Collection: Use Attribution detail pages to provide rich biographies for artists, speakers, or cultural groups. Providing a "face" to the work creates a deeper emotional connection for the visitor.

  • Prioritize Visuals: Always upload a Hero Image. While the Console provides a thumbnail placeholder, a representative image ensures a professional UI and prevents the page from feeling "empty" to the visitor.

  • Curate Navigability: Not every Attribution requires a dedicated page. Use the Display page checkbox strategically; enable it for entities with rich histories or multiple linked Objects, and keep it disabled for minor references to maintain a clean search experience.

  • Utilize Rich Properties: Move beyond basic text by leveraging specific properties like Movement details, Habitat, or Nationality. This structured data helps visitors categorize information and understand the broader context of your Venue.

  • Contextual Roles: Remember that you can assign a specific Role to an Attribution when linking it to an Object. This allows a single person to be credited as a "Lead Architect" on one page and a "Contributing Artist" on another, providing precision in your storytelling.

  • Bridge the Gap with Audio: Enhance the accessibility and atmosphere of your Attribution pages by adding an Audio track—ideal for artist interviews, pronunciation guides, or ambient soundscapes related to a specific group.

Make the Most Out of Your Attributions

By activating detail pages, your Attributions become a powerful discovery tool. When a visitor selects an Attribution card on an Object page, they aren't just reading a credit—they are entering a gateway to every other connected piece of content in your Venue, encouraging longer session times and deeper exploration.
