Discover the latest updates to Empower, featuring an enhancement of Attributions and more intuitive Search capabilities.

Written by Gabrielle Fanning

Overview

This release focuses on deepening visitor engagement and streamlining navigation within Empower. By transforming Attributions into a rich content type, we are making it easier than ever for visitors to connect with the stories and items that matter most to them. We have also deployed a significant upgrade to our Search engine to better handle natural language and typos.

New Features & Improvements

👤 Attributions Update

We are transforming Attributions from static text references into a first-class, navigable content type. Attributions now feature dedicated detail pages in Empower, allowing visitors to explore the stories, people, and organisations behind your content.

Humanize Your Collection

Use Attribution detail pages to provide rich biographies for artists, speakers, or cultural groups.

Richer Attribution details on linked Objects

Previously, Empower only supported name and role as static text. We have updated Attributions on the Object detail page to be more visually prominent, surfacing:

  • Hero image: A thumbnail placeholder will appear if no image is uploaded; we recommend uploading a representative image for the best UI experience.

  • Role

  • Subtitle

Customisable Attribution detail pages

In the Console, you can now build out detailed metadata for each Attribution. New configurable fields include:

  • Basics: Name, Subtitle, External ID, Hero image, and Audio.

  • Content Blocks: Add rich storytelling elements directly to the Attribution page.

  • Properties: Enable specific fields in your Settings. Examples include Dates, Nationality, Habitat, and Movement details.

Detail page visibility

You have full control over which Attributions have a navigable page. Use the 'Display page' checkbox in the Console to activate the detail page. If unchecked, the Attribution remains visible on the Object detail page as static text but will not be clickable.

Make the most of this update

We recommend you review your Attributions list:

  • Decide which Attributions should have their own navigable page by clicking the 'Display page' checkbox.

  • Add a hero image to each Attribution. Any Attribution listed on an Object page will show a thumbnail placeholder, so we strongly recommend customers upload a representative image for the best UI experience.

  • Review the Attribution Properties in your Settings.

  • Add additional content to your Attributions.

🔍 Search Improvements

We have implemented several lexical enhancements to ensure visitors find exactly what they are looking for, even when their queries aren't perfect.

Improved search matching

  • Synonyms: Search now recognizes common terms (e.g., searching "bathroom" will surface "toilets").

  • Word Variations: The system automatically matches variations like "walking" or "walked" to the root word "walk."

  • Typos: Improved handling for misspellings ensures that a search for "toilte" still returns "toilet."

  • Multi-word queries: Phrases are now broken into key terms to improve result accuracy.
