Overview
Outdoor Maps and live positioning allows visitors to orient themselves within the grounds of your Venue using a familiar blue-dot experience. By leveraging GPS signals, Empower helps bridge the gap between buildings and simplifies the journey for visitors navigating large or complex sites.
Open the Outdoor Map on your PWA
To view the outdoor map from the Map tab, visitors can use the level selector dropdown and select the Outdoor View
Enable Outdoor Positioning
Once on the Outdoor map, visitors can activate the blue dot:
Click the blue position arrow.
They will be prompted to enable location access on their device.
Once their position is enabled, it will show as a blue dot on the map, with a directional pointer that shows the visitor’s physical heading.
Tip: The ring around the blue dot indicates position accuracy.
Buildings in Outdoor View
Visitors can use the Outdoor View to see the buildings of your Venue and, if enabled, their own position.
View Details: Select a building configured on the map to see more detail about it, with an option to "Open in Maps". This will open the location in their device’s default map app, using the address entered in the Console.
Building and Space Address: Configuring the address in the Console enables the "Open in Maps" link for navigation through their default map app.
When raw coordinates are used, Empower automatically masks them by displaying only the suburb and state. If an address or coordinates are not used, visitors are presented with a prompt to use Pathways (if available).
Enter Building: If the visitor’s position is near a Building in your Venue, they will see a prompt to ‘Enter’ the Building, transitioning them to an indoor map.
Location Permissions
Action-Triggered Consent: When a visitor clicks the location services icon on the map, or chooses to start a Pathways journey using their current GPS location, the live location consent flow is initiated.
Consent Drawers: The internal "Use your location" drawer helps visitors understand the value of sharing their location before the browser-level prompt appears. Visitors can "Skip" this drawer to be prompted again later, whereas a device-level "Deny" is permanent for that browser.
iOS Dual Consent: iOS users will encounter two distinct consent modals—one for location and one for physical orientation (heading).
Internet dependency: Unlike indoor maps (which are static and can be cached), outdoor maps load geographic data dynamically and require a stable internet connection to function. There is currently no offline support for outdoor maps.
